Alison's Story

Activism and progressive politics have been at Alison's core from the beginning. From her early youth days of volunteering and later spending a semester abroad in college studying socio-political issues in East Africa, she have always been engaged in the community around her.

Her online career began in graduate school where she studied photojournalism and web development. She learned not only how to tell stories in images and text, but also how to use the web to combine photography, video, text, sound, and movement to engage viewers and tell captivating stories. Her work included documenting the first surviving generation of children born with HIV, the LGBTQ+ community in Texas, and the relationship between Russian Orthodox Christians and Tatar Muslims in Kazan, Russia.

Since joining the NationBuilder universe in 2015, she has been fortunate to be able to combine her passions for storytelling, web development, and activism – designing and developing websites and complete digital strategies for dozens of non-profits and progressive campaigns. She brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of how to craft purposeful digital environments that advance causes and drive campaigns forward.

Alison Shuman Media she leads a small, global team whose passion for their work fuels their success.
