Member-Centered Design
The core of this organization is their members, and as such, the new website puts them at the center. The homepage features a sweeping landscape video of San Diego harbor, various club images, a list of member benefits, and a calendar displaying both SDEE and regional events – all serving to provide a feel for what is it like to be a member of this organization. Completing the updated look, was a simple palate change to their logo to softer, more oceanic colors, which were used throughout the site in modern gradients.

The updated directory pages feature a clean, organized, card-style layout that makes it extremely easy for members to connect.
Custom API Webapp for Member Check-In
SDEE required an efficient check-in system for their events, with functionality to verify members and non-members. Since no existing solution offered these features, I collaborated with my API development partner to design and deliver a custom web-based application tailored to their needs. Each RSVP generates a unique QR code that is scanned upon arrival, instantly identifying the attendee, their membership status, and the number of RSVPs or tickets purchased. Attendees are then checked in, with all data synced back to NationBuilder in real time.
Catch Signups Where They're At
For SDEE, I designed a blog layout that beautifully integrates a newsletter signup form and a quick link to become a member. Not every call-to-action needs to be prominent, some can be subtle and thoughtfully placed within the page. The goal is to meet visitors where they are and make taking action as simple as possible.
Alison Shuman has been our website guru since 2016 and is the most reliable, knowledgeable, professional, and talented person for the job. I am always impressed by her quick fixes to any problem that arises and in her solutions to our inquiries. Alison recently redesigned our website and did a phenomenal job. Her creativity stands out on every page. The dropdown menus that she created are user-friendly and the pages are clear and concise.
